An introduction, please … who are you, where are you, and what pays the bills?

My name is Ty Abiodun, originally from Manchester now residing by the sea in Brighton. I’m a graphic designer by day and a regular lounger by night these days!

Where was the mix recorded, and what is the inspiration behind it?

The mix was recorded on my home set up – a couple of turntables, mixer and cdj. The music I listen to, tends to be influenced by the season/weather. So this mix is on the winter tip, as its cold out there.

Strictly vinyl? Strictly digital? Couldn’t care less?

Mainly vinyl, but if that elusive/mega expensive track is on digital, who cares.

‘Balearic’, seems to be a somewhat overused term these days, but if you had to – and we are asking you to – describe the essence of ‘Balearic’ in one record?

Impossible. There are some ‘Balearic’ classics. But It changes day to day, when, where you are, Time of day, etc. You could say that sums it up!

Favourite place you’ve travelled to? And why?

California. The light, the eccentrics I met. The massive RV I was driving!

Sunset or Sunrise? And the best place to experience it?

Sunsets are pretty special. Anywhere where you get a good view of it, with a few drinks and some music. And you’re more likely to get more people who will be awake to share it with!

Most embarrassing record(s) you’ve bought? Most expensive? And your best bargain bin finds you’ve digged out over the years?

I’ve always kept it cheap, but over the years the amount I’ll pay for one record has been creeping up. The most being about 50 quid. Although I did by a few 50 quiders in one go. Made me feel a bit ill! Never had any joy in charity shops. Think someone always beats me to it.

The tightly packed crates under the shelves in record stores are always worth a dig. 5 for a tenner! I often get the tunes I never got round to buying first time round from these crates. Most embarrassing has to be the first record I bought – Cliff Richard & The Young Ones – Living Doll.

Favourite DJ you’ve heard play out over the years?

Alex from Jazzanova, Derick Carter and Francois K are gigs that I remember where it all seemed to fit.

Anything else we should know about you or what you are up to … and do you have a track listing for the mix you provided?

More radio shows on, with a few killer guest mixes coming up. A return to Spiritland in London in the new year. And the illusive search for a venue to put on a party with some likeminded soles.
