We sit down with Graeme aka The Revenge to quiz him about music, travel and some things in between.
An introduction, please … who are you, where are you, and what pays the bills?
Graeme Clark aka The Revenge. I’m from Scotland but now live in Copenhagen. Music pays the bills.
Where was the mix recorded, and what is the inspiration behind it?
The mix was recorded at home and the aim was to make a blend of ‘non-house’ records that I love or that I grew up listening to.
Strictly vinyl? Strictly digital? Couldn’t care less?
Doesn’t bother me to be honest. I play digitally but some tracks were recorded from vinyl.
‘Balearic’, seems to be a somewhat overused term these days, but if you had to – and we are asking you to – describe the essence of ‘Balearic’ in one record?
My understanding of ‘Balearic’ would be the sort of records that were played in Ibiza by guys like Alfredo in the early 80’s. And by that definition it could be a really broad spectrum of rock, soul, electronic sounds. Don Ray’s “Standing In The Rain / Got To Have Loving” record for me is something that I feel would have fitted the vibe.
Favourite place you’ve travelled to? And why?
Where I am now, in Copenhagen. It’s a really cool, laidback city and is great for families. The Scandinavians have a good understanding of balance in life.
Sunset or Sunrise? And the best place to experience it?
Both are equally magical, but my best sunrise was at Glastonbury a few years back on a misty morning with friends just watching the day come to life.
Most embarrassing record(s) you’ve bought? Most expensive? And your best bargain bin finds you’ve digged out over the years?
Most embarrassing : Vanilla Ice “Ice Ice Baby”
Most expensive : Tropical Moon “Love Is A Mystery”
Best bargain : Herbie Mann “Do It Again”
Favourite DJ you’ve heard play out over the years?
One of my favourites is Prosumer – I think he has a great knack for blending the old and new in a way that few else can.
Anything else we should know about you or what you are up to … and do you have a track listing for the mix you provided?
I’m just finishing my second Revenge album at the moment which is due out in February on my Roar Groove label.
